    Default Looking for Jigs...

I am going on a Trout fishing trip this June to Lake Tanneycomo. This year I am going to try my hand at jig fishing instead of just using PowerBait the whole time. I have been doing my research and bought some materials to tie some marabou jigs similar to the ones I have been researching that the resorts in the area use.
I have the small stuff covered 1/80,1/64, 1/32 and 1/16ths. I have been trying some of these with marabou (1/80-32nd oz), or marabou and a small chenille body, like 2 wraps on the 1/16ths.
My problem is I have not been able to source any 3/32nd and 1/8th oz ball jigs with a straight collar for tying these jigs. Where would be a good place to look? I am only thinking about a dozen of each.

    Thanks in advance!

Don't know other than Crazy Angler and think he sells packs like that, but don't know about the collar. Not really sure why you want a collar though. I do not use a collar on marabou jigs and usually can make more than 2 wraps on any jig 1/32 or bigger and think even my smalle heads I can make more wraps than that. I would use smaller chenille for jigs on a 1/80 Oz. However I have so e 1/64 that have sickle hooks in them and some even a #4, LOL!

From what I have seen of most of the jigs they use down there they do not have a chenille body and are tied with a collared jig. The ones that I have mixed up so far look good without a body and just a thread neck but just thinner than the ones I have seen. I am not even sure if it will make a difference or not to go with a body or without. I figured I would just try to mimic what I am finding and go from there. I will have a whole lot of stuff tied in advance and might even bring along some stuff on my trip.

Trout Fishing with Jigs - Lake Taneycomo - Lake Taneycomo

This article talks about the types of jigs they use. There are some pics in it so you dont have to read the whole article.

I don't use collared jig neither. The marabou will make the neck thick and with the thread you can finish the jigs as thick as you want. I made my 3/32 mold also but can olny pour one at a time but they work well for times the 1/16 isn't heavy enough.

later today or this weekend I will post up the proto-types that I have spun up. I would still like to find a source for 3/32nd oz jigs. One of my molds has a 1/8th oz cavity that I will try and see if the hooks I have will work.

Okay I see what your doing and the best thing to do it find a jig head with a collar that flairs a little on the end to help control the thread width. I also tie a jig I was pretty skeptical about until I tried it, the ting was really good! Here is a picture of a hackle jig with no body, it's a Popeye Jig, LOL!

Very effective jig it was too! This had no collar, but still think what you want is a collar with no barb and just flairs at the end. Only person I know that has this mold for sure does larger amounts, but will ask him if he has the time.

This was tied a very long time ago now! Actually my 2nd year tying because I know this vise and used it in year #2.

I found a Mold that has a ball collar, that would probably work. But I don't plan on buying a new jig just for a few jigs for an annual trip. I will see what I can make up with the collarless jigs I have. I will post up some pics once I get a few made up.

Ball collar will work, just don't wrap so much the thread slids off. Should be good for what you need!
