just starting.....

One day last fall I decided Id see if I could make a jig that would catch fish. After looking through my wives sewing & craft stuff + some feathers from a boa? my daughter had, I was set. Grabed some old jig heads & hooks. pic's below if you want to see.(Please remember All of these were by hand, No vice, no "real" fly/jig tying materials, just stuff from around the house. Sorry, I didn't take before pics.) Had some luck with them, so thought Id get a cheep kit (new) on craigslist for $40. It came with everything (vice,tools,feathers,hackles,fur,etc. No threader or whip tool, so I stoped off I got them & a couple misc. things. If I decide I really like it, Ill probably upgrade the vice.

Here is my first one with my 1st vice. (& I even watched a u-tube video so had a bit better idea what I was doing.) decided to play around with materials trying them out/trying to get better.

Coming along nicely. Congrats on the new tying kit. It all boils down to catching fish and its even better on a jig you tied yourself.

so far its fun... & yah, its pretty cool feeling catching fish on a lure you made you self.

& this was left over from a kids fishing event where they were showing how to tie flys. they were throwing it all away, so I asked if I could take it (spent 45 min sorting it out, but was worth it to me.)

Your doing well for a newbie and looks like your getting better with that last one! I think maybe you would like some of the Bream Killers to tie up for Blue Gills, they lone that little pattern. Let me get a picture of one of mine to show you. Then you can google that name and fine them. All you really need though is some foam sheets, Squirrel tails, some lead wire and some skirt material. Only thing is these are flies and may need a fly rod if you don't have one, but all you do it lay it out and let sink until one takes it.

Here are 2 different types, one has a tail and one has none. Most of mine have the original colors for the skirt material and that would be all white.

I'll check into those as well. The one that I tied that kinda looks like that was done with brown thread and some peacock leather pieces for the legs. First cast I caught a 7 inch bluegill second cast was a nine inch bluegill and I continued catching bluegill all day on that. Just a few crappie.
was using a 16 foot telescopic pole the kind with an eye at just one end. Oh and I was fishing from the shore.
