dyeing squerrel tails
has anyone dyed squerrel tails before and if so could
you enliten me on how to do it and with what to use
-
I learned thru reading here and a few other places and then went for it - here's the first thread I posted on it and there's a few more after that as I tried more colors - I did flank feathers, polar bear, and fox. Here's the thread http://www.crappie.com/crappie/jig-t...d-hand-dyeing/
Make sure you get the good Ball Canning jars - I started out good and then cracked one with hot water and luckily got the dye cleaned up without messing up the wifes kitched!!LOL with squirrel tails you may have to cut them in half so they'll fit in the jar.
One thing I learned with the heavy Ball canning jars - after I did the really hot water on the stove and put the material in to dye when the water cooled down, I put saran wrap over the top of the jar cut a few slits then put in the micro-wave and a couple of times at 1 1/2 minutes and it really helps the dye get into the material.

Glad to help - there were colors that didn't work well and I tried to work around them - some worked some didn't. If you run into trouble give a yell and I'll help you out as much as i can. If you're looking for flourescent colors you'll have to buy the dye for those.
