What hackle do I want for V cut? I saw some in a local shop but the feathers were all tiny and there would be no way to use them other than just taking the tips. Looked good for making buggers though. I'm new to this so I don't know the lingo very well.
Neck or Saddle?

2nd the salt water....only way to go for me
I agree, been using it for 10 years or more and the only time I buy the regular neck hackle is when I can't find the color I want in Salt Water Neck Hackle. The difference is the regular is half the price, but is 3" tp 5" long and SW is 4" to 6" long. This also makes for a bout double the cost, but a better feather IMHO!
I got a couple packs of saltwater hackle and by the looks of it, it is exactly what I wanted. Just need to find time to hit the bench! For the little tiny jigs I am tying, I figure I can get at least 7 or 8 jigs out of most feathers. Worth the extra $1.25/pack I paid for the SW over the regular.
Also one note I will add and I am not close to the only one that believes that Hareline's feathers are just better than others. That is only kind they sell for Neck Hackle, but some colors I have to go else ware, but any color they have that is what I buy. If you don't have a business you can buy their packs from JS Fly shop or Bob Marriott's. There are others that sell SW Neck Hackle, but I have never been really happy with it. Seems others are more twisted and such.
