I use wood tooth picks and some I even sharpen more so they will clean out the eye right after dipping the head in paint and I clean the tooth pick and eye with my thumb nail, but that is just me. If by chance one still gets by and closes while in the oven curing and then I use my bodkin heated to melt the paint out of that eye just before I tie it.
