    Are these useful for jig tying?

    I use mine quite a bit. When I tie in something at the back of the hook that gets wrapped or pulled forward, I tuck it in my clip to keep it out of the way till I am up to the step where I use it.
    I have had two types: The round spring wrapped around the vise and the stand-up style. I like them both but prefer the stand-up clip.

    He's right and example may be you want to palmer some hackle on after the body and all is done other than that. You can tie it in before tail or body is done and stick it in the clip until you need it to wrap with. Other things can also get in the way that you tie in early just to hang off the back end until later in the tying. For just regular jigs I don't use mine much at all.
