Default Vise question for all of you.

Talked to bobo about it and thought I would ask you guys. My boys 10 & 13 are really getting into jig tying. Thinking of getting them a vise and tools as it would be alot of fun to tie together instead of having to take turns. Fine with me but they get very anxious with each other.

I have a danvise but not wanting to spend that much (about $100) on one. Looking for the $30 to maybe $50 range. I know that doesn't leave much. I would like it to rotate, as thats how they have learned to do their chenille. But if not, they can always relearn.

What about tools? I got my stuff from basspro. Is that the best place or is their a better place for the price?

    Thanks in advance guys!!

First, setting the boys up, each with his own rig is the way to go. As for a rotating vise under $100, I don't know. Maybe someone on here has an old one or 2 in good shape. For the tools, the best place IMO is Crazy Angler Tackle. A pair of scissors, a bobbin, a whip finisher & a head cement applicator bottle, $15. Add a AA Vise & you're looking at $32 per setup.

I bought a gently used DanVise at btsflyfishing.com - for $65 plus $10.85 shipping. Postage has gone up in a year. I know that is a bit more than you want to spend. These were used in fly tying classes and are like new.
Bought tools from J Stockard. I buy there own generic brand and have been pleased with them - jsflyfishing.com
    Hope this helps.

If they tie flies, all the tools could be used. Only about half are needed for jig tying. I like the Mazerelli (sp) Whip Finisher better. Don't know about the quality of the vise. I like J Stockard.

I have the Mazerelli (sp) lol, whip finisher also. Read good review of the vise...the only downside to that kit I've read was the whip finish tool. We will just be doing crappie jigs.

Get that kit and a different finisher and your still in pretty cheap. If they like it and take off then you could justify better tools. If not just put em up and one day they will come looking for them.

True that!! Its funny how that works. I wish I had ALOT of stuff from my youth. Ecspecially ALL the Hot Wheels, GIJoe, Transformers, and Baseball Cards...I'd have plenty of money for jig tying then!! lol.
