Great looking batch of jigs Scott! I'll be giving the bunny jigs a better look this Fall.

I've been tying some bunny jigs to use at Grenada, Enid, and Sardis, here in MS. Last spring Hunter7711 and I did good using solid orange 1/4 oz jigs on 1/0 red sickles. I fished double jig rigs and tipped them with minnows. I'm reducing the head size to 1/8 oz and adding a 1/4 oz egg sinker to my rigs so that the minnow will be able to move the jig around easier. The two jigs in the center are 1/16 oz on #2 hooks for comparison.

Thanks, I'll be at Pickwick Lake Oct. 9th till the 13th for Fall Camp. I talked with a friend who guides up there and they troll 1/4 oz hair jigs in deep water over stump flats. That's where Bill and Roger Gant perfected their side pulling technique.

They look great Scott, I love Rabbit, but use a smaller hook. I know you guys over on Ms like the big hooks, but I just prefer the #4 size and at most a #2. I know some guides that even go much smaller to cut down on losing jigs to snags. We have so much wood here in this lake I fear the bigger hooks would hang up more and get less back because your not bending one of them with light line, LOL! From what I saw of the lakes you fish there was not as much timber as there is here. Actually have caught some really big fish on small hooks and of course my favorite spring bait is a real Roadrunner with that regular bend #6 hook. However most of them I have to use my stats to get the hook out of the back of their mouths right next to their throats.
The main reason for the big hooks is the size of the mouth on the big 2 lb plus crappie. The hook up ratio really increases with a bigger hook. Of course if you hang up, you might as well get ready to tie another one on. Lol

Since I switched to size 1 and 1/0 sickle hooks on my jigs for crappie my catch ratio has improved a bunch....lot less missed fish and most are hooked solid in the upper part of their mouth. I also went up to a size 4 hook for bream fishing and like the bigger hook better for that as well.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
