Oh and you do pull just enough barbules off to expose the stem so when you tie it in that there are no barbules in the way of that fist tie in point. The tip will take care of it self if you keep hold of it so it can be trapped at the end of the wrapping. Some time if you want less or a thinner collar you would tear off the side of the feather that will wrap aginst the hook leaving the full side to stick out.
