I use a Matarelli style whip finish tool and flat waxed 210 Danville thread and have no issues like your having. I really like this thread and lets me put more pressure on the finish and I even pull it a bit more once finished before I cut it off. My hands are not good for a hand whip finish because of some dry rough spots, so can't really say much about how your doing it and I know a good many use the hand finish, but I like this tool a lot. I don't like Uni thread much, but also like Ultra Thread. Have some new ones to me to try, but have not yet.

Bought the Matarelli finisher and you are right, made a huge difference for me. Thanks for that info.

Glad to be of help. I really like using the tool. Some don't, but once use to it there is not much difference in time to make the finish.
