    Default My first try

Had some stuff leftover from tying saltwater flies around 15 years ago so thought I'd give it a try. Bought some powder coat and a couple colors of chenille and got after it. I'm already hooked. Now to buy more colors/materials to play around with. Here they are, any suggestions appreciated.

Good job for a start even though it's not your first tying. You wil do just fine and yes it so bad addicting you have to watch out or soon you will have more than you could ever use, LOL!

you have the bacis already in you from before so it should be easy for you to progress.

Achiro, it doesn't look like you need any pointer's at all. Nice color choices, good body to tail ratio & flash too. Yeah, it's obvious this ain't your first rodeo. If you are wanting to get deeper into powder painting, look at this post

A 10 color assortment of your choice would give you a great selection

Thanks for the kind words. I'm using flat waxed thread and having a heck of a time getting a decent hand whip finish on it. If I roll it over more than twice I can't get it to pull tight and even that is sketchy at times. I put super glue on just in case but I'm concerned about the knots holding good over time without it. Any other thread suggestions or tips?

I use a Matarelli style whip finish tool and flat waxed 210 Danville thread and have no issues like your having. I really like this thread and lets me put more pressure on the finish and I even pull it a bit more once finished before I cut it off. My hands are not good for a hand whip finish because of some dry rough spots, so can't really say much about how your doing it and I know a good many use the hand finish, but I like this tool a lot. I don't like Uni thread much, but also like Ultra Thread. Have some new ones to me to try, but have not yet.
