Raining here again!!! so been pouring heads and tying...was looking at my Wapsi book and I'm thinking about a new vise...have a Dan...will never go back to a non rotating vise again...I never new I was living in the dark ages till I bought one! I have an issue with mine I cant get over the clamp-jaws area...when I use neck hackle I can't get them to lay just exactly like I want...Wapsi has a Griffin Odysse XGR72 or a Trerra Rotary with smaller clamp-jaw situation not the spring action one......any way has anyone got either one of these??? let me know what you think about yours! What all did you price? You must want a lot of the add on's huh? I know how that is as I have added about every optional jaw Norm makes, LOL!


liftbite56 I would feel really restricted on a fixed vise. I just love my Nor, but I also like my Peak as well as my Renzetti, all of them are really nice equipment.

Skip, I did a bad job of explanation, I don't need a BMW vise haha just a vise that can handle pressure and the jaws and clamp more streamlined the Dan clamp is bulky like a vise grip pliers and when I try and center or Aline each side of the jig the clamp is just so bulky. Maybe it's the angle of the clamp also. I guess I'll have to take some pictures to explain..anyway did that explanation help?

The Dan is a good vise that lots of folks tie on for years but it is limited to being bigger by using composite materials. I've tied on my Renzetti, and played with the peak and the apex anvil some when I found them on display and the staff would let me. All are good machines that operate smooth and well built. I've handled a lot of the others but was not impressed after handling these others, no comparison in my opinion. Smoothness of operation was one of the things I didn't like, like they were built fast and cheap. Handle all you can before you buy, you're gonna have it for a while......Tim.

Well let me put it like this... The Nor probably has the smallest jaw with either the straight one that it comes with, but also the fine point jaw is nice. The Peak has a little larger jaw, but still plenty good enough and then there is alwasy the Midg jaw if needed. The renzetti is like of between these and all have a cam style jaw where you just flip the lever to open or close them.

Maybe reading some of this will help in your decision. Other than that, just put your hands on some if there is a local shop that will let you mess around with them.

I tied on the Griffn for about 6 years and it works great,only problem I ever had was the tension set screws would break about once or twice a year and they will replace them with a phone call, ask for two so you will have a spare when it happens again.I has two of them and it was the same with both.I switched to a peak about two years ago now and love it,havent had any problems yet and I sure give it a work out on a regular basis.
