I have been using a Al burner for a long time now, ever since I first started. Been trying to figure that out lately and not sure if it was 2006 or not now. For a while I just kept tying and didn't pay attention to how long it's been. The oldest pictures and emails I can find are from 2006 so I guess that is when I first started. I thought it may have been earlier because I didn't think I quit trading stocks in 2006, I thought for sure it was earlier and maybe it was and just took me that long to figure out I had to find something to do.
So I guess I have been using the burner for 6 years now and wouldn't trade it for any other way still.
Alcohol burner I use to heat my jig heads to paint, LOL. Sorry for the abrevation, but I get lazy and being a pipe smoker we abbreviate everything. You wouldn't believe it, but with us pipe guys it's kind of like we have our own language.
Also not to be confused with wing burners which is a tool for fly tying!

I Like the alcohol burner for several reasons. First it works and burns clean and once you get a count down for each size it's as simple and counting at your speed to what ever it takes and dip the head. You really are better with 1/4" wick over the 1/8" as for me it's a bigger and better flame! The one if the big things over a heat gun is I don't have to listen to all that noise. Plus I don't have to hold it or worry about how to keep it still and stable.
I have bought several, one all metal, but it has a 1/8" wick and another off eBay, but it's lid doesn't screw on so don't think it will keep my alcohol from evaporating which I don't have that problem. I bought mine that I like from Barlow's.
Some like the heat gun, just not me!
