I use one of the wickless, all metal alcohol burners. I really like it. The only thing is being all metal it can get really hot after a little while and I put a ceramic coaster under it to protect the surface it sits on when I use it.

I only fish on days of the week that end with
a "Y" ...and then, only if it's raining or not.

I thought about getting one like that a good while back and when you tell me it gets hot, I am happy I didn't. Probably would burn my self with it! Mine with wick only gets hot around the top cap so you can still pick it up to move it or what ever and don't need anything under it for protection. I use an old place mat and large manilla envelope just to keep everything clean and my burner sits on that!

    Hey Skip!

I have one with a wick also and like both of them. I guess I probably like the wickless one mainly because of the pure blue flame it has.

Is the flame fairly large or small? I came so close to buying one!

The flame on mine begins about 2" tall but after a little time is just under an inch tall and about 5/16" wide.
