If it has a burr, yes it will cut all of it! If it has no burr then it's the thread. What kind of thread is it and what size? That is also important and you need to give us more info to be able to answer you correct otherwise we are guessing!

I was looking at the thread that I have and it 140 denier. I will have time to mess around with things tomorrow. I am fairly new to this hobby. I am hooked on this and am very happy with the way my ties are turning out. Being new to this I am just not 100 percent sure what I am looking at when I am ordering supplies.

the thinner the thread, the less pressure you can put on it. regardless of the denier or thickness of the thread you should put enough pressure on it when winding to stretch it a bit, but not break it. being new to the hobby, you probably just haven't aquired the feel yet as to how far you can streatch the thread. switching back and forth to different strength threads makes it even harder to gauge. I am heavy handed and still break 140 and 210 denier, and if ya touch the hook point when you wind the thread, well it's game over. lol
