    Default Trolling for Slabs

Didnt want to hi-jack another thread so I'll ask my query independently here.

What is the typical, sucessful way to troll for crappie? What cranks are used? I generally fish water that is a little tea stained. Any info would help. Thanks in advance.

Personally I long line troll Jigs and mostly in the spring it's Roadrunners in 1/32 Oz. Lots of guys spider rig troll too and also lots troll some small cranks. In this lake trolling a crank in the spring is really probably not possible either for the hydrilla and the trees as this was a National Forrest before it was a lake and the Hydrilla when it gets going can reach the top of the water in 20' of water. Always in 10' to 15' in the summer and even in the spring it will be near the top in spots.

If you long line troll you probably want to stay in a certain water depth where the fish are holding and go between .8 and 1.2 MPH.

If there is such a thing, I "short-line troll".

Short-line trolling is when you add a weight in front of your jig, thereby taking the jig to the desired depth while keeping it closer to the transom. Where a long-liner might have 75-100 feet of line out to reach a 15 foot depth, I'll have out about 25 feet. (my homelake is only 1 mile long by about 1/4-mile wide so I can't make the wide turns that long-liners need to make). I use a fishfinder to find the depth that most of the crappie are at and then troll a variety of jigs at that depth.
