Default What is your method to tying jigs?

Ok, I've been tying for a few years now, and I'm not sure if its my method, my ADHD/ADD, the TV, or something else......but I think the most jigs I've tied in a 2 to maybe 3 hr period is 2 dozen......I've been seeing alot of ya'll say in a one evening you make like 4 to 7 dozen jigs!!! Whats the secret? Just wondering!

    Thanks,
    AC

the most I tie at one time is about a dozen, because I enjoy the process and try to make it as defect free as I can, plus I don't sell them, so no one is waiting for them anyway. My neck and shoulders get stiff and fatiged also when tying more then a few.

And the jigs are always prettier at closing time.

I tie at a pretty relaxed pace, about 10 minutes per jig. No more than one hour's worth though; after that my dog is begging to play and my legs have got to get up and move anyway.

i guess i don't tie that many jigs in one setting.i don't sell them as of yet.maybe between 4 and a dozen if im sticking with it.it will be like i do a few jigs than i do some inline spinner lures or mess around with ice jigs,or flies who knows maybe even small wooden popper or plug id throw with ultra lights.i figure why limit myself to one type of lure?and also some nights i mess around with plastics in the basement

i can knock out marabou and hackle tailed jigs at a decent clip. I'm definitely not the fastest either. What helps with speed is keeping your workspace oraganized and practice... For me, hair with thread collars take longer.

If you know all the different patterns, have all the items neatly laid out and handy. Have a designated location for your tools as well. Searching for items is my biggest time burner.

It hurts speed a lot every time you change colors especially tail color, or at least that is what it does to me. I keep each cor of feathers in a zip lock and inside there are a fee other bags, one for extra tips I didn't use last time, one for the part of the feather I don't usually use. The main bag has several packs of hackle I am using and all my little V's Si when I dump all that out, cut what I am about to use and then after using that color putting all that back in the bag to out up! So I try to tie all the jigs with that same color while that bag is out.

If I am tying the same jigs and they are chenille and no flash strips in the tail I can tie a good many in an hour, but of ever 4 pack I tie is different that will slow me down at least in half! Even just adding flash strips will add a good bit of time and I dont think most give any thought to that, but I cut my strips up a lot at a time and keep them in a small box. It's not just picking one up and tying it in a the time! More times than not they are stuck together and you have to separate then and then get it trapped where you want it,Bren you just tie it in, so I think these adds almost double the time to a jig!

Case in point I have a little video I did 2 years back and I tied a chenille hackle tail jig in just barely over 1 minute! However when I am doing an order With flash and lots of tail color changes I will be stuck tying something between 10-15 per hour! If I am tying all the same color with not mush difficulty I can do something like 20-25 per hour!
