Those are not dowels. They are what we call "all-thread", which is like the threaded end of a bolt, except the entire rod is threaded. The hook fits in the grooves of the thread and therefore won't slide sideways. Keen idea, seems to me. Getting ready to start painting my own jig heads and that's one of the first things I'm gonna build me. Great idea, Inkdabber!
