Need some help/advice

I have a couple Lee production pots that I used to pour 8oz pyramid weights with when I was drum fishing alot from the surf. Wheel weights worked well but as you all know they were dirty, trashy, etc. but worked fine for the larger weights. Seeing that I already have the pots to pour with I was thinking of doing my own egg sinkers and 1/16oz jigheads for tightlining but I already know the wheel weights are going to be too much of a pain to pour properly. Is there any place anyone can recommend buying good clean lead? I've searched a few places around town but everyone is scrapping and not willing to come off it. Just wondering if anyone buys from a quality supplier. Thanks.

Sorry you need one of the guys that pour their own and I do not so can't help!

Lot's of us use wheel weight lead to pour!! Are you talking cleaning them before pouring??? I can pour 1/16th and even some 1/32 with tire weight. Before I found this board - I'd used my Lee IV bottom pot for YEARS to clean thousands of pounds of Tire Weights. Yes you'd have to clean the pot after every session but I have to do that after a regular session now, as I don't have a permanent work section.

My pots were just replaced after 24 and 27 years of use respectively, so I know they can take it!!!!!

I buy mine on e-bay from this man down Ala. He shows you where it comes from and picture of it b4 he melts it.( unemp4ever) . around dollar a pound.

X2, try some plumbers, or remodelers even roofers for some soft lead to mix in. Find out how much they're getting for it and make an offer. A little barter works well too. Funny thing is once you start looking around, after a while it finds its way to you.

We had a connection to a fella that owned a junkyard. They pulled all the lead weights off the tires and we'd buy what we needed at the time. Since then, that place has gone under and everyone else seems to have someone already picking it up. I'm not willing to travel very far to get it so that limits my options as well.

I can say that WW lead isn't as good for the smaller stuff, but doesn't need to sit in the corner either. I use a cast iron pot, stew size, to clean my lead, with a coleman stove on high for a heat source. Easier to clean when needed. Then I add 1 or 2 bars of WW and 1 or 2 of pure lead and pour away. The smaller the head, the more pure I use. Really small I try to use pure only. WW lead on my 1/16 barbed heads for using plastics will pour with ww but have to be hot, both pot and molds. I run mine on 9. Too cold and they come out incomplete. Try a 50/50 mix and go from there. If you pour it back into ingots when you change, write on the ingot what the mix is. Saves time and pure lead.

I pour many 1/32 in different shapes using tire weights. Don't have a problem. Save soft lead for making removable split shot. I pre-melt in cast iron pot using fish cooker stand then pour into cornbread mold to fit into pot.
