kevlar thread

been tyin jigs for a couple years went to bps to get some black 210 deniair guy in fly shop said i need kevlar thread for tyin hair jigs anything to it? thanks

Sounds like an overkill. I've even used cotton thread with good results.

I don't think you need Kevlar or gel spun unless you're tying deer hair bass bugs, you almost have to have it then due to the tension you put on the hair to make it flair. Hair jigs and flys other than hair bugs for that matter can be tied sucessfully with 210.

I just use Danville 210 Flat Waxed and now problems here.

Kevlar is used when you need to apply a lot if tension to the thread like if you are spinning the deer hair and want to use a thinner thread. While I prefer kevlar due to it's high breaking strength you don't have to have it.

Plus I like to keep some on hand for sewing.

Definately not needed. If tying bucktail jigs I use either 210 flat waxed, 3/0, 6/0. About the only time I really use it is when someone wants some long bucktail jigs for pike fishing.

I tie bucktails for salt water with 210 - no problem.

I use braid fishing line to tie jigs and flies. It is thin and strong. I use used fishing line that I take off the reel when changing lines. C2
