I decided after seeing some of the Beautiful Craftsmanship from you all , I want to give it a wirl myself . Do they make a jig tying starter kit , that would at least let me get my feet wet ? Been looking and haven't seen anything but I may have missed it to . Thanks for any help and encouragement .

Kits are good starters, but after tying for a short while you will find a lot of the tools and such really cheap. I know you want to get going yesterday, but use your head(and your limited resources) wisely and you will get off the ground in fine style and enjoy this lots more. Good tools keep the frustration factor down and the learning curve shorter. A rotary vise is a plus, and the hand tools like a Materelli whip finisher and good scissors. I'm pretty tired and not remembering where, but there is a sticky listing some of these things for a new tyer. Welcome to the addiction, ask anything you like, as often as you like, we're here to help.

I think it depends on your pocket book and if it's full I would go with a kit at all. Buy tools and vise that will last plus if at some point you decide you don't lie tying I think it's easier to see if the stuff you have is good and not the cheap end. If you pocket book is not a full and price is big then a kit may be the best way. To each his or her on, but I personally don't like kits.

Lot of fun and really cool to catch fish on a jig you designed and made. I started with a jig kit from Bass Pro, and I added a ceramic bobbin and Materelli whip finisher. The video in the kit makes it really easy to learn. I now use RonDon and Crazy Angler to feed my habit...it will grow fast!

In small intervals. Not everyone can forget the pockets and you'll definitely hit bumps. But that's how anything great was ever built. By builders.
I'm still tying on a kit vise and would def see the advantages of a nicer one. But there's nothing you can do on those that you can't with a kit vise. Just may take an extra second. Save the money you'd spend on the kit, get a cheap vise and your fishing colors in a few materials. Catch fish with em and see if they hold up. You'll smile when they do.

Everything else is just money and what materials you can purchase.

Just make sure you point that out and mark your calendar with invisible ink when it does happen.

Make sure you like the hobby Bf you break bank, unless you have expendable income.

You'll meet and make a lot of good people in the jig tying hobby. Hope to see you around for a bit. Here and There.

    My lowly 2cents
