I've been experimenting with nail polish recently, after finding the mother lode at the dollar store. There are a whole bunch of nail polishes that are basically glitter suspended in a clear base. You can get some really stunning effects by powder painting a base color, then curing and dipping in the nail polish. You have the chip resistance of powder paint, with a nice glitter coat. It dries fast, and so far I haven't needed a top coat.
