    Default Jig Length

What is the over all length of your jigs? also how long do you make your buck tail or what every you're using for the tail of the jig. Is it supposed to be as long at the hook itself or longer or shorter?

Its all a preference thing...Ive read many times to where the tail should as long as from the point of the hook to the bend in the hook.

For sure a personal preference on all this. Some like a buck tail jig to be right around 2" for crappie, but on feathers I don't personally believe in the short tail side, but many do want a short tail. I just think the added action on a feather jig with a tail longer than what some like may actually do better, but that is my take and many on here will disagree which is fine. To each his or her own! I mean for me personally don't care for fishing with buck tail jigs, but I do tie them for others that like them.

it depends on the size of the jig head before I picked the length of the tail I myself tend to make them a little bit shorter like for small jig heads we like to run about a inch and a half or even smaller on some but I like to match the tail to the size of the head like skip said everybody has their own method on how long the tail should be.

Look at some of the bodies on some of the curly-tails, they're pretty long. Longer may cost you a finiky fish or 2, but an agressive/hungry fish will just nail it.
