Heck every thing that is tied to fly fishing or fly tying is higher, LOL!
I think that on marabou by the Oz I pay like $5.50.

I was only refering to the clothes. Their prices on material in even more insane. I stopped at the local orvis dealer just to see what they have as a backup if I ran out of something instead of waiting for mail order. $4.95 for 1 kip tail!!!
Even when cabela's has a semicompetitive prices you have to watch. Their strung marabou by the ounce was like $8. BUT the colors ran horribly.

I feel lucky that I got into pouring jigs back in the 70's with my uncle. The same molds that cost 10 to 15 dollars are now 35-40. Mine have paid themselves off many times over so I'm lucky in that aspect. I've alway bought my hooks by the thousands and between what I have poured and probably 20,000 hooks in box's I'm pretty well set for years to come. I also tie flies and as Skip said fly tying materials cost way more.
Tying your own is fun and even better catching them on something you made yourself is even better.
You can pour your own and still save some money as long as you don't go crazy!!!!!!!! Regualr Testors paint and a double coating of epoxy is fine, I still do some that way, but powder is quicker!!!!!!!
Enjoy and be safe.
Hey Fatman I picked up a couple of cree capes and a few Whiting hen necks today for not a bad price since it was not wholesale. Sending you a PM just in case. Not sure if the cree capes are Whiting (I hope) or Metz.

The problem with Cabelas is they kill you with the shipping cost, unless you make a big order the shipping is more than the actual item cost.
Thanks Skip but I gotta pass right now with all the medical bills coming in. I've got some left and I use it sparingly.
Yep, I started tying jigs just to have something to do. Didin't fish with em so I gave em to my friends. Then friends wanted more and wouldn't take no fer an answer. They would pay. So , I tied some more jigs. Folks wanted more so I tied some more jigs. Started getting enuf dollars to break even on materials. The I started fishin with jigs...gotta tie more.
Then upgraded to a peak vise (wonderful vise)! Well......all I can say is......I learned how to say... these are whut I have tied. What color you want and I'll get em done in a couple of weeks!I have no intention of tying jigs to make money. Its just a hobby with me.
But, it ain't gonna save no one any money!!!!! Everytime I see something I git to thinkin....hmmmm...that would work on a jig!
There is money to be made tying jigs....but...it then becomes.......WORK!I'm gonna keep it a hobby!
When I do sell em they are a buck apiece. I make less than mimimum wage after materials. I am a real fast jig tyer!!! NOT

You can save a lot of money pouring and tying your own jigs lol.... you're still paying twice as much buying them pre-poured even if its thru a good guy like a lot of us on here... and when you can pay 5 bucks for a nice bass jig... pouring your own and buying the silicone you can make one for pennies... bass jigs (good ones) cost anywhere from 1 to 6 dollars... if you made it would be about 25 cents, but with crappie jigs they are cheap because they're the cheapest jigs to make. I'll stop rambling now lol
You might save money in your cost per jig, but you spent a lot more on all the materials. Ask me how I know. :D :D
