Really, I agree with the others, I started tying my own crappie jigs about the middle of January, (2011) using an old kit my grandfather had stuffed away downstairs. My first jigs looked like a ball of thread with either far too much or little marabou. Once I got it down though, the ones I were tying looked really good, w/o the chenille, and other misc stuff.
