That is CDC and not marabou. It's the same principla as Marc Petitjean magic tool. It's not for marabou as your thinking of it. It's for flies mainly. Not only is it not for marabou, what it would do is line up the feather barbules at the stem and for marabou to be done right it's lined up more by the ends. When I stack my marabou I just keep the tips close to the right length and then after I have enough (which mush of the part that is cut from the stem are staggered) then when you pinch it all together you have to pinch it near where the shortest ones are so you can then cut that end to tie it natural looking jig tail.

That kind of tool is for using dubbing loop and then palmering the feathers on the hook using that twisted dubbing loop to hold them all together.

Still cool way of managing materials ... I'm guessing this would work for making a dubbing brush. I did watch the magic tool guy also. I really like how he split the thread.

Yeah he's good. I have both sets of that tool and his thread splitting bodkin. I lone hoe simple it is to use the CDC with it. CDC is high cost for little feathers though. You can also do marabou like that for that kind of tying and would be best probably is marabou that has short barbules.

It is still way cool stuff and I have more very cool things and 3 ways to dub stuff. That is one of the areas I want to do for my self that I have not had enough time to really get it down like I want to. You should check out rope dubbing. I have that DVD and may end up getting DonO's 2nd DVD too. I have been working with him a little and he's trying to help me, but my time is so limited, but I am about to change that. This rope dubbing is one of the coolest thing I have got into.

Skip when you say dubbing rope... Do you mean dubbing brush like norm makes?

no Rope dub is totally different than any style of tying with dubbing that there is. The guy (DonO) is the guy that came up with it like 30 years ago, but I think last year was the first time he put it on DVD. He showed it to people at shows and such and they thought that they could then remember enough to go do that too, but usually not so.

No one using this type system like the MP Magic tools is not even close to the same thing and it's hard to explain in a post. There are 3 or 4 ways to dub, one is like MP does it, then the old style used forever where you make a dubbing loop and bud like that. Then there is the way it's done normally on a Nor Vise and last but not least is DonO's rope dub which is faster and can do more with it than any although Norm's way on the Nor Vise is very cool and good too, but you can't do as much as you can with rope dub. MP kind of does the loop method, but splits the thread and makes hi loop like that and some just make a loop without splitting the thread which is probably the oldest way. Still all work and just how much you can do with each and how easy or not each is. I know how to use them all, but am mostly concentrating on rope dub now and also some of MP Magic tool stuff too as I like ti as well.

You really wouldn't believe how much you can do with rope dub. Oh and just to be clear it's not dubbing rope, it's rope dubbing and they are very different than dubbing brush. Rope dub I think you can do mast anything and include it with out making any kind of brush.

Don't know if Marc Petitjean has online video available, but that would be one to watch and you can understand him. He is very good. I have his DVD and it's pretty awesome, but not as awesome as DonO's DVD on rope dub.

Sorry forgot to mention something I feel needs to be said about something that guy in the video said. He said Marc Petitjean has some thread that you can split and in fact a lot of thread can be split. Danville, Ultra Thread both can be split, but Uni can not and it has to do with how they are made. One reason I don't like Uni Thread is because of how it's made and has O Stretch where both the others do have some give which help with my tying. Someone told me they only use Uni and he ties a lot of barbell eyes which he says it holds better and doesn't slip as much and that may be true, but I have not tried it for that yet, but I will at some point since I have some I may as well find a use for it.

Anyway my main point is don't buy Uni thread if you plan on splitting it and instead buy Danville or Ultra for that purpose.
