Looks like you have an old Palmer split shot mold and you are missing an insert. Do you have a model number - should be a 3 digit number?

Not sure JSC - in one of the pics it looks like the mold has "pellet" on it. Don't have the palmer catalog handy.

It's hard to get those older style molds to sit flush - why you get the flashing. You might clean or dress out the mold guide pins and recieving hole on the faces of the mold.

I know that they made a "Pellet" for sling shots but the way the Pix looked was that it was a split shot with out the insert ... looking at it again and seeing the other flashing it could be "warped" ??? Like to know how this one turns out.

get you a nail file one of the wooden sticks and once you have all the crap off, the nail file will smooth it up in no time. thats if it is not a split shot mold. And heck if all else fails build tyou a shelf and put it on it and you have started collecting old molds congrats![]()
The insert will help a lot. I have an old split shot mold and even with a crude insert it cleaned up the pour a lot. Can't make shot out of it yet without the real insert but it helped to see what they are supposed to look like.
If you all you want to do is make sling shot ammo with it then find a piece of tin or aluminum that will fill the place the insert is supposed to go. Shape it a little and you should have some better results making them round without some much extra.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
here are some better picts of that mold i took a wire brush and a sharpie and defined the letering on it for better viewing

That is a "Pellet" and not a Split Shot Mold.
Really a lot of flashing ... needs a lot of cleaning ... or ... its warped.
Let us know how it turns out.

Lot of times the alignment pins and holes are dirty or the hinges have a lot of slop. Also as JSC has stated - could be warped (worse case). You might be able to surface the faces to get a better seal. Close the mold and hold it up to a light source and look through the seal - gives you an idea of how bad the misalignment is and where you have to surface the face.
No.08 is a very old number - don't have that listing.
