    Default Roadrunner Alternative

Bob Hinkle (Snake River) came up with the concept in the DIY Plastics forum. Here is what I did today. Thread a very small barrel swivel over the hook point, push on a Jilly Jelly Jig body and super glue the body to where it touches the jig head. That holds everything in place. Attach a tiny split ring and blade. His concept will work.

I tested it in an aquarium up against a r.r. in both a 1/16th and 1/32nd sizes. I also used chrome blades and painted chartreuse blades. In all tests it appeared to spin as well or better than the pricey r.r.

I have made some up like that using a chenille body and maribou tail. They work great!

I knew someone had done this with a tied jig before but didn't remember who. I may just have to tie some up for crappie here, might be just the ticket to get these finicky fish to bite here. I think I may need to try some of these for steelhead also.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Indeed, RR's quality control isn't what it used to be.

Not the greatest pictures but here is a few that are close to that I have tyed up. They work real well in stainded to dirty water here in Mid-MO. I like to use two pieces of hackle turned out the best with some craft hair for filler and a little shiney stuff to like in the two last pictures. But they work just as well with marabou or kiptail.

If you use a crane or roller swivel those blades would spin a lot better than the the barrel swivel. The first belly spins I seen were on cdc awhile back. Ledhed intoduced the concept to cdc and they are killer baits for sure.
