Default How many use a base white coat

How many of you use a white base coat before you add other colors? I know a lot of folks do before adding chartruse and blaze orange. It seems red is brighter when you have the white base also.

If you're talking about powder paints, I have just about gotten away from the white base. White has a lower temperature flash than almost any other color and is subject to run and drip, I have found that by curing the white base before applying the second coat helps with the running and dripping. I mainly will just apply 2 coats of the desired color or use a similar color as the base.

White basecoat a must on glo and fluorescent paints if you want the true color pigment to come through.

On powder paint I haven't really noticed any difference on the flourescent colors and I can't speak on the glo colors cause I haven't tried them.

If you're painting by brush almost any color will look better with the white base coat, just make sure it's completely dry first. You'll have to coat with epoxy if you're going to use plastics.

I have never used an undercoat for PP. Even my candy colors look better over polished brass than white and the fish agree. For any other paint I use a white undercoat if it is not a vinyl, bright, solid color if I want the true color to come through.

Sometimes putting a color over lead or brass without a white undercoat can be very effective. Don't be afraid to try it on a few jigs.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

I do use white under vinyl, but don't like it much under powder paint for the most part. Plus I don't like having to cure and paint two times for that. Now I do use some other colors under some, but like I said I really don't care for having to paint and cure two times.
