Tried underspin many years ago and my buddy used to use one all the time. I hated it. My buddy could only cast about 35 feet on a good throw. I have a ton on crappie fishing rods and almost every one has a Diawa GC80 spincast. Absolutely love it. You can get away with 4 lb. test because it has a little lever on the reel that you can flip and it releases the drag. You can use your thumb and forefinger to hold the line and act as your drag.

I caught a grass carp in 2007 that weighed over 50 lbs. in Barkley Lake on 6 lb. test fluorocarbon line. Caught several good bass with it as well. They cost around $50 apiece.

I like the Diawa 80 underspin it is a good reel. I have two of them. They are in the middle on size but i have less line drop off the pin when reeling in, some of the smaller reels you have to tighten the line before you can reel in line also i have less missfires when shooting docks. I have shakespeares, Zebco 11, and Diawa 40 and 80 I always go for the 80 on a 5' rod. Cub48
