1st Jigs

I made 50 1/16 and 50 1/32 last night. Really enjoyed it, cant wait till they are hanging from a slabs mouth!!

One thing I noticed when I was doing these was that when I was curing them the paint started to drip at the recommended temps and time in the oven. Is this a common occurance?? Just wondering because the amount of time it takes to paint these seemed like it was doing more harm than good so I took them out early.

Don't know what you're using for an oven BUT!!!!!! whatever you're using get a small internal thermometer at Target, Walmart whereever and check your temp. I posted this months ago and you'd be surprised at how many found out that the temps were way higher than what they were set at and this included regular ovens.

The same thing happend when I first started and I was given that tip, oven was off by 57 degrees on the high side.

Are those stick on eyes that you glued on??? Let us know, the temp guage should cost about $3-4 bucks but man is it worth it.

Those eyes are googly eyes that you would put on puppets but much much smaller.(4mm) Yes I glued them on, (one by one) and when looking at them from the front or from below or above it really gives them a fishy 3d look and I believe the time is worth the success on the lake. I dont think that they make any that are stick on for this particular eye but could be wrong as I am very new to making my own jigs. Heres a pic of what they look like from the front. (Sorry for the pic quality, taken from my phone.)

FATMAN thanks for the tip I will be stopping by wally world on the way home tonight and test out my oven tonight. I only have 1000 hooks left so I will have lots of attempts to get it down pat.

I also find that if I overheat the head before applying the powder that it takes on a thicker coat and drips during curing. I cut out a bit of the preheat and have had better results.

I have started using a heat gun (paint stripper) to preheat my jigs. I barely preheat and if the powder is cloudy, just hold it over the heat gun for a second and it will gloss up nice. The reason for the drip is too much powder on the jig not your temp. 400 degrees F for 20 minutes and it will be hard as a rock.
