I am brand new to casting (havnt casted my first jig). I have all the equipment and safety stuff just need one more question answered. How long should i allow the lead to cool in the mold before I open my mold. I really dont want hot lead dripping all over the place.
thanks

Lead solidifies in a hurry ... fact is the next question is going to be "how do I get this mold to fill ?"
It will alll work out as you work with it.

Once you pour the lead in you'll see the lead harden in the pour sprue hole, once you see this you should be fine. One big tip, use needle nose or pliers to pull on the pour sprue to take jigs out of the mold. After a few pours you'll have the timing of it down and it'll seem really easy. Be safe and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!
Warm up the mold on a hot plate and make several pours before you install the hooks. This might help avoid the how do I get this to fill properly. Smoke the mold with a candle before you start pouring. Do-It molds are cast aluminum and have pores, the candle smoke will fill these and also allow for easier jig removal.
That info about candle smoking the mold is so true. I poured some 1/32 in a new mold that hadn't been treated and couldn't get good fills all the time. Now I have to learn to use it all over again, good fills now. Acts like it's been greased.
