    Default educate me please

I just started pouring jigheads and have seen alot on here about fluxing the lead.Im using pure lead, do I need to flux the pot or the lead or what. A step by step direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I often use a piece of Candle Wax every once in a while when the pot is just heating up. You have to be careful because if the lead is hot......It will flame up. The pot i'm currently using has poured over 100,000 heads and still works good. Just a slight drip everyonce in a while. I do remove all the lead and clean the pot occasionally......I flux (Candle Wax) reel good at that time. I use a soft lead for sinkers and combination of Tire Weights /Soft lead for jigheads.

I have mine on a table with a hole drilled through the table all the way to the floor and a metal bucket sitting on the floor. When it drips, the lead goes into the metal bucket and I just recycle the next time I melt lead for the pot. Works for me....

I once asked someone at Do It about this and they said it was okay for it to flame up. It just takes a little bit, about 1/2 the size of a chewed up piece of gum. It seems to bring the garbage to the top where it is easily pulled to the side with a ladle. You can then put it in an aluminum pie pan or something medal until it has cooled. You can dispose of it later. Don't put your pan on anything that can be damaged as the heat will go right thru the pan for a little while. When it first flamed up, it scared me a first as I thought it would hurt the pot or something might blow but I've never had a problem.

Fluxing will make for a more pure lead which is easier to pour. If you haven't done this, I would call them for specific instructions. Never pour water around lead. It will splatter everywhere and you could get a bad burn. Never use lead that might have water inside. Even a little bit could cause it to explode.

I would read the directions from whomever you got your pot from. There are a lot of do's an don't's when using lead.
