    Default Water Fleas

For those of you who make your own pin mins. You might want to give these a try. Simple to tie with teeny bit of material. On this lure less is more.

I make two major types one with metal head and one with plastic bead head. These are normally tipped with waxworms or maggots. By the way they work just as good in open water as on top of the ice.

The plastic beads have to be drilled but the metal one's holes are big enough. For tails I usually use scraps of stuff. I use just enough material to give a little movement. I like the plastic beads that are slightly transparent. As the water flea itself is transparent and is a major food source during the winter.

I have been making these for 20+ years and they are my go to lure on the ice.

I like them. I have been making pin mins for over 45 years. Mostly soldered. Those will work in soft water too. Are those #12 hooks? Very nice job. By the way "Less is more."

Jack Manda of Manda's bait shop on Portage Lakes got me interested in making pinmins. They were deadly on Mogadore, Wingfoot, Portage, Berlin and West Branch. Go Browns!

I remember Jack bought my first fishfinder off of him. Drove all the way from Warren Ohio to do it in 1973 . Seen his ad in the "Outdoor Journal " possibly the worst outdoor magazine ever. No# 10 hooks on those Ship. Make my own pins too. Some bare , some with hair , some with rubber. Paint all different types of colors but basically just use two the most. Used to fish Mogadore a lot when I was getting BIG perch but now very seldom.

By the way have you noticed the Browns are getting a smidgeon better.

nice-looking baits there Hays I could see where they would be a killer on bluegills and I'm assuming that you were using plastic beads we are thinking about getting a mold to make robber beads.

I got direct tv this year just to follow them this year. They have been in everygame this year for the first 55 minutes. However games last 60 minutes. They are better. I posted how to make pinmins on this forum. Perhaps it will inspire someone.

Those look good to me. I have some palmered on a 1/64 head with little material that I got to try, not much different than your green one. Now show fish.
