Gold stinger

Flashy but effective. Some non-target species like to munch on it especially those with whiskers.

Have had luck with it in clear and stained water. Even tried it while night fishing with some success.



Palmered rabbit for belly, marabou for black back , gold hologram chenille and a willow leaf spinner in rear. All mounted on gold plated head by CAT.

This Mr whiskers fell to the goldstinger. No the hair does not foul the blade. I palmer the cross cut zonker when using a rear blade. That way the skin never see the blade. My early prototypes of this jig did foul the blade thats why the palmering technique now. In fact when I got the fish pictured it was tipped with Berkley gulp too.

My personal theory why bladed baits work " gives the illusion to the fish of a small school of minnows. " In my youth we used to seine a creek that was full of smallmouths and large minnows. Bass would not be actively feeding but soon as some minnows injured by us running the net thru them. They flashed by swimming sideways and the bass would immediately attack the crippled minnows.

I also tie the standard pony head for flash . I also tie a version with the spinner tied right behind the head. All versions work but some days a certain type will be preferred by the fish for reasons only known to them.

looks like your gold Stinger really works but your post to be catching crappie not Mr. whiskers . We have caught a lot of channel cats on jigs that I've tied up course the country were I live here. There are a lot of channels . We have them in the river behind the house. We have a lot of fun in early spring when the water is running high. Yet the channels will come on up in feed on trash fish eggs .

Nice cat but would hate to tie into one on my new BnM jig pole. like to catch kitty fish in the spring when the water is cold. Now that is some good eating with fries and hushpuppies. Your jig looks good and sounds like you have done your homework on design. One of the reasons that it might attract cats is that it might resemble the golden carp minnow. Just a thought but we use them on the trotlines and they catch some nice big cats.
