    Question First Fly - Compara-Dun

This is a whole new world of tying. Not sure my big fingers are going to get along with tying these small flies. While this isn't really a small hook but is the smallest hook I have tied with. It's a #8 and I need to get down to a #12 hook. A little time will make a difference with working with the flies and hooks.

Looks good to me. Smalls frustrate me too. Watched I guy with one arm tie a fly on TV a while back. And we think we got problems.

Purdy good, you might want to use the ends of the fibers for the tail so they'll have the natural taper. I tie down to size 22

    Should work for you.

I just love tying flies and don't get to fish them much, but plan on doing more of that just to use some of mine. I was not going to go into the fly fishing end, but I did when I was really young kid so I got tempted and went to Wally World and bought a total fly rod and reel with a few flies for $20.00 and went out with a tiny fly hoping to get some gills off my next door dock. Well after just a few short cast since I didn't remember much and I got a big fish on. Thought it was small and would have fun, but then he found out he was hooked and took off. Great fight, but he broke my line and got away without me ever seeing him. Well not long after that I ordered a fly rig from Cabala's that is a pretty nice one and hopefully I can keep it at the one, LOL!

Know if you get into that much it will cost you in the end for sure, LOL!

I have a fly rod I have had for years. Pulled it out this year and played with the bream some. Plan on hitting the mountain streams this fall and want to have some flies for brook trout and browns. Not really sure what flies to tie but I guessed this fly was a starting place. We use to fish for em but just quit going for some reason. It's time to start back since I can be fishing in a little over an hour.
    Thanks for the commits guys.

I will the next time, thanks. I had em on this one but they were to long so I cut them down. Size 22, I'll need better glasses too.

looks good!looks like the same exact hooks i started doin flies on.#8 aberdeen panfish hooks i found at walmart come in small square plastic box and have illistration of a crappie and bluegill.i recently orderd some smaller size hooks for fly tying and they can be annoying to whip finish because lack of room on the hook shank.i just rotate the fly in the vice and it helps.the smallest size hooks i have is 16.those size 8 hooks work great for gills and such.i haven't even tryed any of my tiny flys yet.

That one looks really good Ronnie. That's something I just haven't gotten into yet, (like pouring jigs), but I'm sure I eventually will. I'll have to get up with you for some instructions when I do. LOL
