First if there's any blood on them you need to wash them in water soapy water and get the blood off. Dawn dish soap works great.
After you get done dry them and put them into a container with Borax and let them stay in it a week, if you see any wet spots put fresh borax on it.
I've done this to separate feathers and whole skins and I've never had a problem with them.
