Skip, I dont think it is even remotely possible that I would even attempt something like that. I would be much more inclined to buying a sack full of those and throwing them in a pot of crab boil.

That is simply amazing!! Bet it would make an awesome gill jig.

Stump Hunter I didn't make it, just saw it on there. I am surprised as many time as I have said you guys should look at these kind of sites. There is a ton of knowledge there and great patterns for fly tying.

There is so much more to that site than just the boards, it's all the other stuff that's great!

The guy that tied that is the same guy I just bought his DVD for $45 on rope dubbing.

Really glad to see you guys finally get over on that site and no matter if you post on that broad of not is not the deal, it's all the info you can have behind the forum boards. Look at the tips section, look up patterns and see recipes in words and pictures. Just look around an see what is what. I still go there all the time to look up stuff.

You don't need to do the crochet to get the same type of look. Just use monofilament and clear Larva Lace in the colors you want to make a shrimp looking pattern. I do the crochet for a couple reasons. It gives a unique look and also gives a lot of gaps and spaces to add scent to. It also allows a lot oflight through it to give the look of a translucent shrimp or a soft shell crawdad.

FAOL has hundreds of shrimp patterns on it that are likely as effective as mine and a lot easier to tie.

Agree 1000% on getting on FAOL, especially for you new guys to tying!!!! Al Campbells fly tying series is totally free and step by step. You learn to tie things in, proportions to size hook and the patterns are there!!!!!!!!!

Especially good are the articles and tying skills of Rick Z!!!!!!! He ties up some great bluegill and crappie flies that could be tied on jig heads.

Anything that can help your tying and give you patterns for free!!! Priceless

Absolutely Fatman, when I started there was not so many videos on U-tube and all and that is where I learned most of my tying, right that on FAOL and Al Campbell tying instructions. You guys take notice, one of my first post on this board was the sticky " For Someone New To Tying" and right there I started trying to send people to FAOL and the link is still there (Oh that was Nov. 2007)!

Also Fatman that guy DonO is where I bought that rope dub DVD and he is an awesome tier. I learned about him first from Denny. I am still trying to get better at that stuff and it's just awesome!

Oh one thing for you other guys as I know Fatman understands this already, but most of you don't and I even remember someone saying after I posted the 2nd group of capes and saddles how that was what they liked and these were quality. Well they were good quality like my Whiting Badger Capes, but they were not the quality of the birds I showed in the first post. However the great thing about Denny is the same thing that makes some think the capes may not look as nice, but they are better is the side feathers that everyone else takes off and sell separate for more money where Denny leaves them on and they are so very useful.

The cape portion of my full rooster was above grade #1 so that is about as good as it gets.

Also Whiting make higher grade capes than what I have of theirs so even though they looked very nice and neat (and good quality) they were not their highest grade, but they are very good and nice.

I just wanted to point out that when you see Denny's capes and you see the side feathers still on, that is exactly what you want because of the extra value from them.
