    Default Hey Skip

You sell a zillion jigs a year. Out of curiousity....if you had to pick the 5 most ordered color combinations....what would they be?

    Hi SM,

Give me until tomorrow to think about that a bit. I think it will be pretty easy, but just would like to make sure. I will get back in the morning for sure. I guess right off the top of my head I need to think about the top 8-10 and pick the 5 best.

I can tell you for sure the Silver/Med. Blue/White is near the top and several guys will only use that on this lake.

Got no time right at this minute.

I guess a lot of it would have to do with what kind of water (stained, clear, etc) that some of your best customer's would order. But you've done enough of it to figure the most popular across the country. Look forward to what you come up with.

Let me do it like this, I will post a link to some pics to show them.

This next one has two tails and the one not shown is a Black tail, but I call them both Black Widow.

I can't list these without saying the Chartreuse/Blue/Chartreuse on both jigs and Roadrunners is awesome and one of my go to colors early spring. Not sure is sell any better than the last one above though.

Also will add that the one in my Sig is gaining ground, but is still new as is my Silver & Blue Delight and both as selling very well for sure. Just have not even had these all this year so behind by years of the others.

Also the Cactus jigs that I have actually been tying since 2007 when I tied my first Krystal Flash Chenille jigs, but in 2009 Cactus it self really just took off. This year seems other tiers have got into the Cactus wave, LOL!

I also can't actually say these above have out sold my Christmas Jig as I do move a good many of them and I personally have been using these colors in Roadrunners since the 1970's. That would be the one below, but maybe not all of them with this big of a head, LOL!

Don't get me wrong, this is best guess, but a hand full of others are also very close to these.

What did you want this for? Hope it helps.

I was just curious. I tie some wild colors just for fun, but for my own fishing I have a few basic colors that I use. Flo Red/black/chrt, chrt/white/chrt, solid white, and silver/gray/gray making up most of my personal use. Wondered what the most popular among the wide spectrum that you cover would use.

Now this last spring was the first time I had that nice long silver body stuff and once the water cleared was the first time I tried it and it was just awesome. I sent out some Roadrunner heads and got them Nichol Plated so that with silver body and Lt. Blue tail was probably my best at catching crappie this spring.

Got to say that color rocks shallow (under 11' deep water), but have not tried it yet deeper, but will.

I need to tie and try some blue. It's kind of like chartruese, universally good. The water at Toledo Bend....is it stained or clear?

Mixed by what part of the lake and time of year kind of. Usually my part is stained when the year starts and the last couple of years about half way through spring it starts to clear more. Start...good if you see 2', later see 3'-4' down if things go right. Now just a little up Six Mile in the direction of the main lake it clears even more. I have really never ever fished the mid to North lake though. It get pretty clear near the damn and some creeks near there are 65' deep and almost Blue at times. Sand banks too. Six Mile is about 1 mile wide here and I am 5 miles from the main lake.

Try Silver/Silver/LT. Blue, if you find it I really like Silver Doc. Blue, but try to not get darker and if you fish any sort or clear water I bet it will kill them in the spring. You can imagine that silver shining in the sun.

Also when they talk about seeing color in water the last color even in totally clear water like off shore is Blue and Violet. Green and Yellow go at something like 13'-15'. They say after 40' in clear water it's just Black. However there is UV light and it can be seen by fish and it will go like 700' or more which is a long way past 40'. Anyway if Blue can be seen farther than other colors doesn't it make since it would be very good?
