My Spinnerbait Evolution
Here is where I started on my journey of spinnerbaits for crappie.I started by tying jigs. That was a little boring sometimes when I fished them. So,I got some spinner forms from Barlows Tackle and that made it a little more interesting while out on the water.Seems like all I caught were bass though. So,I figured why stop there.I moved up to some bigger baits and it just got funner and funner. There are not too many crappie right close to me,but I have a lake 15 minutes away that holds lots of bass and bluegills. That's why I make all my larger spinnerbaits look sorta like gills.
what size fluted blade is on that spinnerbait? i take off the second or outside blade off my spinnerbaits and put on a brass fluted blade. just yesterday called cabela's and asked them to measure their musky fluted blades to see if they were the size i been using. sure enough the no. 7 they sell is what i've been using and may have been where i got mine from years ago. i ordered more no. 7's and a package of no. 5s from them yesterday. they give a lot more "thump" to the bait. the no. 7 muskey blade they sell is only one inch wide and just a tad over 1 1/4 inch long. it gives it lots of vibration and doesn't break your wrist fishing it for a long time.
That spinnerbait there is like a 5 fluted. It is the 3rd size down. The biggest I use are 9 then 8 then that guy. They are weird sizes. Not the same as Coloardos or Indians or even Willows.Probably the size that you are talking about.
