    Default Securing marabou/Bucktail

Ok I've been makin jigs for bout two years now, but had takin a break and just started makin some more in the last two weeks..but not sure what I'm doin different.....the ones w/ the bucktail after I makin them I pull of the tail to make sure its secure and not sure if I'm pullin WAY to hard or what but it pulls out after like the 3 or 4 pull. So how do you secure ur bucktail on your jigs? And how or what do you do w/ jigs that have no tail or hardly any tail now because of that?

    Thanks,
    AC

Use heavier thread and tight wraps. Those first 3-5 wraps over the material is what holds the hair in, not all the ones you put on top of it to make it look pretty. Add a drop of head cement on your whip finish.

Take a razor blade to the old jigs and tie them again.

I use flat waxed nylon thread. The most important wraps are the first ones you put on the hook. Put a nice tying base of thread on the hook and put some "Hard as nails" on it. Now add your tail material. A few lose warps first to get it in the place you want then cinch it down with tighter wraps. Add more "Hard as nails after the whip finish.

It didn't take long for me to learn that a little clear nail polish on the thread helps to hold the hair.

I always use clear nail polish after I make my thread bed.Keeps the hair from moving while trying to get it cinched down.Heck,I buy the cheapest clear polish that I can find.Even after wrapping it on bucktails before chenille,I coat it again.Kip,bucktail never comes pulling out.I went through that before, lol.

Might keep some of those tail-less jigs for tipping with shiners if you fish that combo any.
