keep the extra stuff and if you tie some micro jigs you have some left overs to use...

Lots of uses for the rest if you want to use them. I have several things I do with them and save almost all of my scraps in a bag that I keep inside the bag I keep my hackle in. I usually put my hackle in a Qt' storage zip lock type bag and it can hold a bag of scraps and when too much I place them in a sandwich bag in one of my drawers.

Can't remember for sure, but if I am thinking about the right jigs the WM jigs that Blakemore markets looks a lot like they use what is left after the tip is cut off to make the tails. I could be wrong about who that was, but I know I have seen someones that is like that.

When I can find the color I want in 4"-6" neck hackle that is my preference, but cost more. However lots of time that feather is wider at the bottom so lots left to work with. Small flies and Jigs I use that a lot of the time with no tip.

Now if it's a scraggly left over I would lose it.

Good job now go get em.

I also use the left overs for tiny jigs by trimming them plus my wife
makes flower designs for hair and corsages, so she uses a lot of my leftover
pieces. Although occasionally I've caught her getting into "the good stuff"
However she can catch, clean and cook fish as well as anybody and better than some!!! So I guess I'll keep her!
