We all get caught up in fishing one way or with our confidence baits. For a few years i went the other way, it went smaller down to 1/500 oz. I was either fishing a very shallow water lake or dinking around in a clear heavily pressured water I have seen it make a differance in numbers in shallow water fish. Even back them i could see there was alot if possibility in deeper water and heavily lures. Then when i started hitting deeper water with my 2 and 4# test shallow rigs it wasnt working. I stepped up to 3/32 and 6# test and that really helped me even for detecting lift bites because the lure is heavy enough keep the line straight. I went ahead and made some molds even heavier but the the head capable of using small hook from size 6-2 Most might even take size 8 if i had some to try. The last time out we had so much wind and was jiggin so i pulled out my 28" ice fishing rod with strike indicator to fish out of the wind with more control and sensitivity it really surprised me how well it did on a few different trips and fish species , it worked great on cold bullheads. Id encourage that when in the fish to experiment with flys, lured jighead size and depth. as well an non conventional crappie lures. I an probab ly going to get the first pour out of my molds in the next few days.
