The way I see it,say a suspended shad is just sitting there calm,it's fins are moving and it's gills are moving,so something that moves in the water with the current and shows a flash of red might just be the ticket.

If the color red starts disappearing in around 3 ft of water, then why do we put it in our jigs??? another thing to make you go hmmmmmm

but if that flash is deeper than 3 ft do they see it? its 1 of those if a tree falls in the woods question lol....I know thats how the cajun red line operates, thats there theroy i guess
Pbug : If red disappers in 3 feet of water how come that the hook makers want to sell us RED HOOKS. And we seem more that eager to buy them??????? And I have had days that a Red and White jig was just about all the Crappies were interested in down at 8 to 12 feet!!! I have read that fish are color blind if so I bet they can pick up different shades of gray that color would give off.
Always something to Ponder.
Redman
I think that they called the red hooks, blood hooks to catch us fishermen.I've been told that the real reason for the red hooks was that they pretty much became invisable in the water to fish. But,blood hooks sounds better then "invisable hooks" for selling them.

If a man says something wrong and there is no woman around ? Would he still be wrong ?
Behind every successful man stands one extremely shocked mother-in-law.

Ask some bass fishers their favorite color for after dark..... I bet you would get alot of "black" as an answer. If I don't use a top-water, I like a 1/2oz black jig with a 7" black ribbon worm trailer, dark and large for more disturbance. Fish don't have to see to eat. Pulled this quick from wiki -
Lateral Line - The lateral-line system helps the fish to avoid collisions, to orient itself in relation to water currents, and to locate prey. For instance, the blind, cave-living Mexican tetra have rows of neuromasts on their heads, which appear to be used to precisely locate food without the use of sight; killifish are able to use their lateral line organ to sense the ripples made by insects struggling on the water's surface. Experiments with pollock have shown that the lateral line is also a key enabler for schooling behavior.
I don't think that anybody can say what a fish sees myself.I have used a lot of white crankbaits with a red head and killed them. The same day used an all white crankbait and hardly could get a bite.I don't know. These are stupid largemouths that I was talking about, lol.
