i have about 60- 3oz sinkers over 300- 1oz sinkers.. and 200 -1 1/2 oz sinkers. gonna melt them down. Picked them up for 40.00 at a yard sale this summer, so hopefully that will last awhile.

I hope your weights are of a better quality than mine were!

I had the same idea when I first started out, I have a collection of 6,8, and 10 oz. egg sinkers for deep sea fishing I was going to melt down. When I started melting them, every third one was nothing but a bunch of slag/oxidation/dirt combination!!! I dunno how they get that crud in their molds.. they must have a gate the size of an NFL football!... but it was bad. lots of fluxing and skimming just to get a workable enough mix to pour a 1/16 oz jig!

I would suggest you melt your weights in a pot separate from your production pot and flux and skim the first melt pot well!!!

Now I melt all my "junk" lead (wheel weights, sinkers, and such) in a "Hot Pot 2" flux it and skim it, then pour it into pepsi cans i've cut in half to a depth of 1 1/2-2" deep (you can peel the aluminum can away from the lead pug kinda like peeling and apple with a pocket knife). These make nice clean pugs to put in your production pot!

I'm sure your sinkers are better than mine were... but if they aren't, I hope this helps!

Good luck PBUG.Where are you ordering your hooks from? Some folks on cc sell hooks at great prices, cheaper than Barlow's and other places.

Hey had a fella tell me he was getting his from contractors that replace the lead in X-Ray rooms in hospitals. They have to change it out every so often so check around if you live near any contractors that do that. maybe check with the hospital to see who does theirs.

This guy is not in business of pouring jig heads any longer and that was a few years back, but seems like a good way to get some free or at least he was.

Man pouring 5000 jigs is gonna take a while . You're not gonna break .06 each for a while if you're gonna buy molds. Good Luck
