Not sure I am looking at your question right, but here is the way to tie in your palmered hackle. You tie it just like any jig and the after you get the tail in you tie in the hackle and leave it hanging off the back or hook end. Once you tie in the body you can then wrap the hackle and tie it in at the head. Now on flies lots or most of the guys also tie in a piece of copper wire that wraps over the hackle to make it last better and they tie in it just like the hackle.

Hope this helps and I answered your question.

Thanks Skip and everyone, I got it now. I really like the hackle look and I may tie me some bluegill bugs for the bedding season on Lake Ouachita and leave the crickets at home. Another Question, I have a "hackle gauge" in my box of goodies that I traded Ledhed out of. What is it for?

Mostly for fly tying of dry flies. You have to measure the size of the hackle for that. They have a formula and it gauges the size of the hackle to the hook size.

Be sure to get some Saddle Hackle for this if you don't already use that. I use it for any palmered or a jig with a collar and then for a tail I use the Neck Hackle.
