Jig weight

New here to fly tying, been tying and fishing on 1/32 jig heads and had good success so far. I've been reading alot about guys using 1/16 jig heads and was wondering am i using too small a jig head? Should I go to 1/16 jig heads? Most of my crappie fishing is in the spring time only and like I said ive had fairly good success. Started tying last spring, only got to crappie fish 4 times, each of those times were from around 7:30am till noon and i caught no less than 40 each time, only using my jigs. Is there an advantage of using a 1/16? I know that weight would be good if the wind is blowing hard or if the fish is deeper but in my fishing situation what is best? Any advice from you pro's sure would be good...thanks!

i mostly use 1/16 and 3/32 but to match lake conditions i also make and tie 1/64 ,1/24 ,
3/16 , 1/8 1/4 gotta have all bases covered .

When I jig fish I tend to use smaller jigs then work up if im not catching anything. Learn by trial and error. Seems like that is the best way for me.

I like to use lighter jigs in the winter time. Sometimes I go as light as 1/80 and 1/100 when I am single pole fishing.

i found sence being on the site is it depends where you live. seems bigger jigs get used more down south and smaller up north. I cant explain why but I live in mn and biggest i use is 1/32 and in winter threw ice its always 1/80 and 1/100's

If you are catching 40+ crappie each outing I wouldn't change a thing.It wouldn't hurt to tie a few other sizes to take along just in case the 1/32 let's you down. You can get bigger hooks in 1/32 as well.

I make my own and for slow trolling i use 1/32 oz with a #2 red sickle hook.Works good all year for me.

I tie mainly on 1/16 but like most of the guys say, tie a variety for different conditions. For exalmple if it's windy I go up in weight, ect.

1/16 Is my favorite/best seller, but I carry some 1/8 and 1/32 tool. If it's working, don't change it, but carry other sizes just in case you need it.

i fishing with nothing but 1/16 and 1/8 but im also fishing 7-12ft deep with a cork and need the weight to cast...but i wouldnt change anything if its working for you but wouldnt hurt to have a few diff. weights laying around in case you do need them
