I usually do about 100 or so at a time laying them in sequence about 6-8 in a row using nail heads nailed to the dowel rod.I shake up the vinyl and dip from the cap,not the bottle,tilting the cap to one side so the paint runs to one side of the cap.Several sizes of nails get me the eye size I want.I believe eyes do make a difference and even use glow eyes on some.I'm sure the drill bits would work,too but the six inch pieces of dowel that I use reminds me of a pencil and I can control it pretty well.

Thanks everyone for your help.It seems my problem has been the paint and putting them in something to hold them steady. I tried acrylic enamal and that made a huge difference. It seems the viscosity of the Testors is to thin. I am ordering some vinyl paint to see if that works also.I made me a jig holder so the jigs lay flat while every thing dries. Again, Thanks for all the help from a great bunch of fellers !!!!!

This is just another way to hold jigs flat and handy for making eyes. It is simply 2 pcs. of craft foam sandwiched between a couple 1'X2's ,and held together by deck screws. The jigs slip in for a tight friction fit.
Note if you get CS vinyl, you will need thinner also to get proper thinning. A cheap paint plastic pallet and eyedropper works well as taught to me by member rebg38. Illinoisgiller

I gave up trying to paint eyes on jigs long ago and if I put them on now it's stick on's with epoxy over them to keep them on. Theirs some really neat 3-D eyes out there now.
