    Default Vise info?

Been looking for a new vise. And from looks of it, going to have to buy 2 new ones.
Need one for small hooks say up to 4/0 or so, Then one that can handle a 11/0 hook.
Also has to be one that rotates around also.
    Any ideals?
    Pete

Are you sure you need one to go to an 11/0? Renzetti Saltwater Traveler will do from #28 to 10/0 so can't that work?

vises are like automobiles, everyone likes something different. very, very few vises will hold a large hook without slipping, while taking the thread wrapping forces of a 210 ndenier thread. a dynaking vise with it's notched jaws will do that, and probably an hmh vise with a magnum jaw which is textured on the inside. some of these vises can be purchased with regular and magnum jaws, that can be changed out quick. thats where my taste in vises lies.

    Shilo,
You can get a vise that the jaws change out like the Nor-Vise .

Love my Nor Vise and have the large conversion as well as the fine point conversion. I just didn't suggest it because of cost, but if the price doesn't get him then it is a great vise. I use the large counter weight with my fine point and I like that better than the counter weight that some with the fine point.

However by the time you have all the stuff I have for mine you have a pretty good investment in the Nor. If you do dubbed bodies and some other fly tying techniques then the Nor is head and shoulder above the rest, IMHO.

My poor Renzetti sits there looking at me most of the time, but I do from time to time use it.

Personally you couldn't even give me a Renzetti!!! I know people who have them and love them but when they pulled that crap about being the only ones allowed to use the phrase "Bent Arm" design, and anyone who used it had to pay them a royalty.

I have a DK Kingfisher, does what I want it too for the cost I wanted to spend at the time. I also have an original Thompson Model A and a
    Herters #9.

I'll give you the same advice as any new fly tyer. Go to a fly shop or a find a Trout Unlimited Group in your area and try as many vises as you can with the features you want and when you find the one that fits you BUY IT!!!!

    Thanks Skip.
Yes I tie 11/0 thick wire hooks. so it needs to go that big. But Thursday while laying in bed at the hospital. I had a brain storm. I have something that works for the bigger hooks. so that took care of the big wire hooks.
Also can buy most vises at wholesale through our supplyers so looking at a good one this time. Also does not hurt its a tax write off also.
Thanks to everyone that posted on this. Lots of great ideals to research .
    Pete
