I though of that, but I don't know how to do powder paint. Plus, they already painted silver. They aren't just lead color, they are actually painted silver. Can you put powder paint on top of paint that's already on the head? How do you get it to dry?

Sorry about the dumb questions, I just have no experience with powder paint. I am totally open to the idea though if you think it will work.

When you said silver heads, I was envisioning a nickel plated (metal) head, which looks 'silver' to the eye - not silver paint.....

If your heads are nickel plated - trying to scratch the head w/ something sharp - like a utility /xacto knife shouldn't work - to the best of my knowledge.

If your heads are silver painted, for certain you should be able to use just about any brush on/spray on paint - ie jig paint, Sally Hansons, etc. Spray or brush on paint would be a option, regardless of what is on the head - nickel plate or paint.

If your heads are plated - the plating likely covers a good portion of the hook shank - the ones I have on hand - have plating on the head, and the hook shank around the bend and the barb, vs paint, where the paint likely stops part way down the shank, and the hook is a differant color - ie bronze, red, .....

Powder paint is simple - heat the jig (I use a heat gun) for 4-5 seconds (depends on head size), immerse in the powder, then hang until it cools. I use a hemostat for the heating and dipping. I've got a Salvation Army toaster oven I use for the baking. 20 minutes at 350F should do the trick for the baking. Other heat sources could be used to heat the jig. This has been covered in detail here on the forums several times. Make sure you clean the powder out of the hook eye before you bake your heads. Don't use a oven you use for food to bake jigs.

    Hope this helps....

    Thanks Grump,

Yes sir, they are actually painted silver. They are not nickle finish. So I looked up Sally Hanson and I see that it is regular fingernail paint. So I'll swing by the drug store and pick some of that up. For some reason I was thinking the only way to paint them was with powder paint. Thanks again for helping me out with this.

Glad you got the package Mudbug. Sorry they aren't quite as nice as some of the others you've posted pictures of, but that's about all I could do with what I had. I still need to get my supply of materials and stuff padded up a little bit. I hope to make a trip to Bass Pro before too long and get some materials of my own. Just have to know what I'm gonna tie before I go down there. ROFL. Anyway, thanks again for putting on this swap man, I've been having a ball following this thread and looking very forward to getting my other jigs back in the mail.
